Brazilian police said 3 million people protested Sunday, asking for the removal of President Dilma Rousseff.

Brazil newspapers said the protests were the largest political demonstrations in the country's history. The protest took place in 200 cities and towns.

The protesters asked lawmakers to impeach the unpopular president. Rousseff’s political party faces a corruption scandal while the country is in its worst recession in 25 years.

Sergio Praca is a political analyst at the Getulio Vargas Foundation in Rio de Janeiro. He said the nationwide protests "were very powerful" and were "the worst scenario possible for the government."

Officials are investigating Rousseff and her Workers' Party for their role in the corruption scandal at state oil company, Petrobras.

Prosecutors said more than $2 billion was paid in bribes and other funds by construction and engineering firms in exchange for inflated Petrobras contracts.

Dozens of former Petrobras executives and political figures, including Rousseff's mentor, former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, are under investigation. Some of the alleged corruption took place while Rousseff was chairman of the Petrobras board.

Rousseff, whose term ends in 2018, said she will not quit. But the president and her Workers’ Party are facing a new threat.

On Saturday, Rousseff’s main governing partner, the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party, said it is reviewing its alliance with the Workers' Party.

It is not the truth , Lula and Dilma created a power project to be in the power forever ! They put a lot of people into the intitutions to garanteee the support to remain in a power forever . The eletronic pool were under investigation to not not be a safe way to vote . Everything that cames from PT ( worker party ) has corruption. The most of citizens are against the government , Dilma is incompetent politician. She try to indicate lula as a minister just to avoid him to be arrested in corruption process and investigations . So Brazil is a mass just becouse PT , Lula and Dilma has a power project , communism and a lot of corruption in Petrobras ( oil company ) . The people in Brazil will solve this in a legal process , impeachment

What the most of Brazilian people are looking for is justice. Nothing else.

We hope all defendants are judged and arrested if guilty.

It was disgusting to read the note quoted below spread around social networks. All people want, now, is to wipe corruption out of this country once and for all. Everybody I know is sick and tired of watching bandit gangs disguised as public officers shamelessly robbing the nation, while education, health and infrastructure works go down the drains as violence and inflation soar. Demonstrations throughout the country are certainly chasing the corrupt gangs out to jail. Game over, rats.
“This is to urge all state directories of the Workers Party to summon, as a matter of urgency, for March 18, all unions, militancy and if necessary convene militants from the outskirts of towns, preferably black and mulatto, for whom transportation, food and 30 reais in cash will be granted as aid. The Workers Party (PT) needs to rise to the challenges of this new historical period. With a red star on our chests and a brave heart we’ll show the elite we are a strong and united party.

I'm so sad. I wish these brazilian politicians like Dilma and Lula recognize they robbed brazilian people, who don't have right to education, health and a future. Not only Petrobras are used for these politicians to be rich persons, but same others public enterprises.

We, brazilian people, is suffering because justice has not been done. Most of brazilians want impeachment of Dilma Roussef and we do not want to Lula to be minister, because he is running away to the Justice!
