Man, 59, China: How to make life's dream of studying in U.S. come true?

TEXT SIZE - +

My name is James. I have had a dream since I was young. My dream is to attend an American university. When I was young, I had no money to go. Now I can afford it, but I am too old.

Whenever I go to the USA for business trips in recent years, I go and visit universities instead of sightseeing. Each time I visit, tears often roll down my face. Now I am nearly 60 years old and I have a happy family. I know there is no chance for me now to realize my dream, but I still miss it badly now and then.

Please give me advice what to do. I will feel pity if my dream does not come true in my life.

Hi . My teacher told me a true story . There was an old man graduated from a university of USA in the age of 70s . His major is literature . Every day , he had to drive to shool , which was 200km far from his home . He didn't miss any classes for 4 year . In the end , he graduated with best score and given a medal from the president . Think what you can do for the society in ur age and apply for a subject . Best wish for u .

I used to dream to study I USA, but I don't have money to go. We have same problem. I understand how do you feel. For me I'm 21 years - a senior university in Thailand. So, I'm thinking about master degree but it's too hard because it might be more expensive than bachelor degree. For you I agree with Bakeel you can send your kids to study in USA because you have enough money now.

you can achieve it by supporting someone financially to study thier, and there are a lot of poor students who want to study in usa

People often say 'the age is just number', however, in real life it's not true. My advice for your situation is helping others. There are a hundreds and thousands of students want to attend college or universities in USA,but maybe some of them gave up due to financial problem. So why not giving a scholarship to someone and make his/her dream come true. Good luck friend!

You can go on the internet and search for universities to find a suitable one . And then , talk to someone who works at the school and see if you can get in . I hope I can help you .

American universities have students graduate in their 70s. You are not yet in your 60s, so go and apply to schools that you like, and then go mingle with your young classmates.

Hi I'm a Chinese either.but the only difference between us is that I'm just a student of 15,studying in a foreign language school. I think whether a dream can be made true is just depend on your stamina and confidence.Best wishes to you.(sorry everyone , probably there are a lot of grammar mistakes.I am just a learner )

I had the same dream as you did. You failed to fulfill your ambition because of being poor. Now you can earn enough money to meet financial requirements but you think you are too old. I think you can participate in some university activities. You will meet and communicate with students, professors. In this school environment, you can possibly learn a lot and feel young again. It is just the other way practically to learn and you will not say: "I am too old to study."
